Warmer months means bugs are in the air! If you spend any time traveling at night or during the summer months in general, chances are that your car is covered in dead bugs. Because dead bugs produce a level of acidity that can compromise that paint on your car you will want to take the following steps to remove dead bugs from your car.
How To Clean Bugs Off Car With WD40
Supplies Needed:
- WD-40
- Microfiber towel/ cloth
- Microfiber Bug Sponge
- Car Wash Soap
- Dish soap
- Water
- Bucket
- Microfiber Wash Mitt
- Car Wax
Wash Your Car
You will want to start with a basic surface clean of the exterior of your car. Combine car wash soap with warm water in a bucket. Use a microfiber wash mitt to give the entire car a soapy scrub. Rinse with water.
Treat with WD-40
Once the initial wash is done, it’s time to give some special care to the areas of the car that are covered in dead bugs. Spray WD-40 on the buggy areas. Allow the WD-40 to sit on the car for a minimum of 10 minutes. Do not apply WD-40 to the windshield or windows on the car as it will be difficult to remove from glass.
Using a microfiber bug sponge scrub the buggy area of the car in a circular motion. If those dead bugs have been sitting on your car for a while, you may need to repeat the WD-40 application and scrub process 2-3 times until all bugs are removed.
Get Dead Bugs off Window Surfaces
Now that the car surface is clean you need to wash the dead bugs off of the windshield and windows. Mix dish soap with warm water. Apply mixture to the window and windshield and allow to sit for 10 minutes. Use a microfiber towel to scrub the windows and windshield.
Final Wash
Now that the dead bugs have been removed from the car, it’s time to do a final wash. This final wash will remove any remaining WD-40 or soap from the car.
Combine car wash soap with warm water in a bucket. Use a microfiber wash mitt to give the entire car a soapy scrub. Rinse with water.
Preventative Car Wax
Applying wax to your car is a great way to protect your car from future dead bug buildup. Use a quarter sized amount of wax and apply to the foam wax applicator. Apply the wax (using the foam applicator) through gentle overlapping circular motions on the car’s surface. Follow the product’s instructions regarding how long the wax should sit on the car. Remove wax with a microfiber towel to give the car a final shine.
