How to Clean a Hydro Flask Straw Lid?
The best way to clean your Hydro Flask straw lid is with a small brush designed for cleaning straws and a small amount of detergent. Unless your straw or Hydro Flask is very dirty, you should be able to clean your Hydro Flask easily in 5 minutes.
A Hydroflask is one of the best water bottles you can buy today. Incredibly, it will keep your water cold for over 24 hours. But with heavy use, a Hydro Flask can become dirty quickly.
Hydro Flasks have several moving parts. If you want to make sure your entire water bottle is clean, follow this cleaning guide below.
How to Clean a Hydroflask Lid?
The Hydro Flask lid allows you to remove the spout. Open the spout as if you were going to take a drink, grab it with one hand, and gently pull to the side. The spout will pop out, revealing a small rubber O-ring underneath the spout that should be removed and fully cleaned (do not lose this O-ring).
Using a small brush like this one, clean the spout thoroughly and scrub the O-ring. To replace the spout, first insert the O-ring then firmly push the spout back into place until it clicks.
How to Clean a Hydroflask Bottle?
Hydroflask bottles are stainless steel but over time can get dirty with buildup and grime. We recommend using a brush like this one from Hydroflask to clean your bottle. Using hot water and some dish soap, scrub the interior of your bottle thoroughly. Let it dry before using.
How Often Should I Clean My Hydro Flask?
A Hydroflask can see a lot of use and it is easy to neglect cleaning. Even though water does not seem dirty, over time there can be a build-up of mold and dirt that needs to be removed. The last thing you want is for an odor or bacteria to grow inside your bottle!
Generally, it is recommended that you clean your Hydroflask once every 7 days. This should involve a thorough cleaning of the bottle, lid, and straw. After cleaning, be sure to let the bottle dry. If you are consuming beverages other than water, you should clean your bottle after every use because bacteria can grow very quickly if you are drinking milk, tea, or juice.
How Do You Get Mold Out of a Hydro Flask?
If you happen to find mold in your Hydroflask (happens to the very best of us), here is a step-by-step approach to remove the mold and restore your Hydroflask to brand new condition:
- Clean your Hyrdoflask thoroughly as described above. Wash the bottle, lid, and straw. Observe any remaining mold that is left after this first cleaning because that is what still needs to be cleaned.
- Using vinegar (white vinegar works well), pour ¼ cup into your bottle, seal the lid, and shake vigorously for approximately 5 minutes. Vinegar naturally cleans and kills mold.
- Leave your Hydroflask for an hour and let the Vinegar soak into the mold and bacteria. During this time keep your Hydroflask sealed. Patience is key, this will work!
- In the meantime, make a paste of baking soda and water. After one hour, unseal your Hydroflask and with a small brush (an old toothbrush is fine), start scrubbing any stubborn mold or scum remaining.
- Do a final wash to remove any vinegar and baking soda remaining. After a thorough rinse, let your bottle dry. At this point your Hydroflask should be looking (and smelling) close to brand new.
3 Best Ways to Clean a Hydro Flask
There are other ways to clean your Hydroflask as well. Here are 3 alternative ways to clean your Hydroflask:
- Cleaning tablets are a great way to stay on top of cleaning. Pop one of these tablets in your Hydroflask every week and let the tablet do the work.
- Dawn soap or basic dish soap is another great option that will always go a long way. Most of the time, dish soap can get your Hydroflask sparkling and clean again.
- If you want a more natural solution, you can try coarse sea salt to remove tough stains, mold and dirt. This is a classic cleaning solution that has been around for a long time and works very well.
Does the Hydro Flask Straw Lid Leak?
This is the most common Hydroflask problem, but one that can easily be solved. If your bottle is leaking, it is because the rubber gasket has gone bad. You can replace the gasket easily with something like this. There is also another smaller gasket underneath the spout on the Hydroflask straw lid. If you are still having leaking problems, consider replacing that gasket as well.
Can I Fix Dents in my Hydro Flask?
Hydro Flasks are one of the best water bottles on the market, but unfortunately, they can easily ding and dent. If you’ve owned one for a while you may have noticed that even setting down your Hydro Flask too quickly can deform the metal exterior. There is one solution for this problem and it is the Hydroflask Flex Boot. While it won’t repair any dents, it will cover up the damaged exterior and prevent damage in the future. We recommend buying one of these boots immediately upon purchasing a Hydro Flask to protect your water bottle most effectively.
