How To Clean A Car Navigation Touch Screen

What You Need To Follow Along In This Guide
Microfiber Towels
-
- Microfiber towels are used in many car cleaning applications but are essential when working with easy-to-scratch surfaces such as a car’s navigation screen. If you do not purchase a microfiber cloth, ensure the rag you use is clean.
Distilled Water
-
-
- Some people use isopropyl alcohol, which can damage the navigation touch screen over time and hinder the display quality. Distilled water is the top choice as it will leave no streaking behind, yet remove all the dirt and grime needed.
-
Tape
-
- The tape will be used to cover any ports or crevices that could be damaged if water entered. Any tape will work.
Step-by-step Screen Cleaning Instructions
Begin by tapping off any ports around the navigation screen. Often times there is an auxiliary port nearby that can be damaged by water. Ensure that this and any other ports are taped off
Wipe the Touchscreen with a Microfiber
- Dampen a microfiber towel with distilled water. Working from the top down, wipe the screen in a back-and-forth motion. Once this is done, repeat the process going side to side across the screen
- Note: if the touch screen is extremely dirty, use a vacuum to remove dirt before beginning the wipe process above
- Hover the tip of the vacuum over the screen to ensure no scratching occurs.
Dry the Touchscreen
- Once the screen has been wiped, use a separate microfiber cloth to dry the screen and remove any remnants of smudges.
- If the screen is still dirty, consider using an ammonia-free cleaner on the screen. This will remove more than distilled water, but should only be used if water does not work.
- This will not damage the screen film because there is no ammonia
